Hunting Thumbtack Reflectors:

Thumbtack reflectors such as ‘Fire Tacks’ are a great way to mark any route you may need to travel after dark – eg after sitting up over a wallow or game trail for a sambar deer until the light fades and then wanting to get back safely and quickly to your camp. NB the Stealth ones visible only at night or in UV light. A search for ‘hunting relectors’ or ‘reflective thumbtacks’ will find you quite a range. They are usually only a few dollars for a pack of 25, so you can economically mark quite a long trail. Of course they have a million and one uses other than for hunting. See eg: https://www.firetacks.com/

At night they look like this. You shouldn’t have any trouble following them!

  1. The white and bright orange markers do stand out when lit at night- which is exactly why I won’t use them! Years ago, I found dark green reflective tacks that would provide an adequate visual marking with a white light at night; but unless you had an idea (generally) where they were, they didn’t give away your trail. The brown might be an option worth looking into (they require a red lamp beam to be seen), but I’d rather the dark green reflective tacks (which appears to be a discontinued item these days).
