Here’s a great little ‘Stanley’ blade (neck) knife which weighs less than 20 grams available from Litesmith for US$19.95. It also includes a built in ferro rod (in the sheath) and so doubles as a fire starter.
You will need a Phillips Head screwdriver if you wish to remove the blade so that you can utilise it (without the blade) as carry-on luggage on an aircraft but as hardware stores sell both (screwdrivers and blades) you should be able to reassemble it for just the cost of the blades when you get where you are going.
It utilises more of the blade than I have seen in other models (at 2 1/8″ – 54mm) as well as being lighter. You would definitely be able to skin a fox, fillet a fish or or butcher a deer with this handy tool. The fixed blade configuration gives good control and leverage.
I view it as an essential component of the ultralight hiker’s kit. The sheath clicks on very positively and will not fall off. Consequently it is possible and desirable to carry it on a light cord from the neck for quick, convenient access.

The Carry on Knife Problem Solved
it’s neat looking. there’s a missed opportunity to glue small screwdriver bit in the bladeguard you can manipulate the bolts with. about the carry on luggage: a blunt steel plate the size of a credit card, a detachable handle, and a small stone to sharpen it on would make it so rather than going to hardware store we could just get away from the city as quickly as possible and make the knife usable later in the evening.
Or you could just knap a few stones together when you get there to make a knife as our ancestors used to do! Cheers, Steve.
