Milford vs Doubtful Sound? Which is your favourite? The road to Milford is one of the most wonderful in the world I’m sure, and there is no doubt that Sound is the more famous, but for my money the Doubtful beats it hands down, and if you can manage a trip there the Dusky beats it too!
We were ‘lucky’ enough to be ‘cruising’ the Doubtful on a beautiful rainy day. This drove most of our fellow travelers indoors, but Della and I relished the rain out on the deck. This deluge transformed the whole Sound into a million waterfalls.
It is hard to see them through the rain in the photos but if you have the opportunity to travel there on a wet day, seize it! It will amaze you. The Sound is much larger and grander than Milford – and the trip there is also awesome.
There is no doubt Milford is beautiful:
But Doubtful has many splendours too, such as the wonderful Blanket Bay Hotel on an island at the sea entrance.
And in the rain it is simply breathtaking.
With simply thousands of waterfalls often falling a kilometre into the sea.
The only trouble is that on a rainy day it is so difficult to get a good photograph. Most of ours were somewhat spoiled by rain all over the camera lenses! The only thing to do is grab a cup of coffee, stand out on the deck and gawk at the view.
