The Toothbrush Spoon

The patent for this idea was filed in 1934 so it is not my idea, but it is my take on it – and at 2.38 grams it works and saves you weight on your toothbrush. How low can you go? Just cut the toothbrush down then add a couple of small o-rings and voila! BTW: The handle I cut off weighed 13.6 grams!

I found the above image here: http://blog.modernmechanix.com/toothbrush-spoon/ and the patent here:  https://patents.google.com/patent/US2028519A/en

Here is my take on it.

I will be carrying it.

and the Brork Life

PS: Just as a matter of interest I cut the red backing off the toothbrush head. You can see the result in the photo here:

I know you may say half a gram – who cares?  I imagine I could trim further, as well as use lighter o-rings and get this down under 2.5 grams, possibly under 2 grams. However the point is this: the saving of over 10 grams on such an insignificant item as a toothbrush simply underlines the excess baggage all of us are carrying. PS: A little bit of trimming and two lighter O-rings brought it to 2.38 grams. So there!

Remember this datum from the post A Lazy Man’s Guide to Hiking and HuntingSo a saving of 10 grams now doesn’t seem so silly does it when you see that it is the same as shifting 100 kg (200 lbs) one metre (yard)!’ per hiking day in energy terms, energy which has to be carried in grams of food and calculated in calories of food carried.
