Lots of people live in flats and don’t have anywhere to store a normal kayak. It may be they don’t have a car with roof racks either but they still want to go canoeing on a beautiful silvery river on a hot summer’s day – as who does not?
The folk at Tucktek have come up with a fine solution: a hard-shell folding kayak which weighs around 13 kg but will tuck away under your bed (for eg) when you are not using it.
It is made from recycled plastic material (if that is important to you) and has lots of interesting features. We once had a folding boat that was made along much the same principles. (It was a Porta-bote). It worked out very well – though I bought the wrong outboard engine for it and managed to have one of those two-strokes which is terribly unreliable at starting – not something you want when you are out on the inlet miles from anywhere. At least I had oars. The boat above comes with a folding paddle. All you will need is a life vest, an Esky bag and you are good to go.
You can check it out here: https://tucktec.com/#top and here https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tucktec/tucktec-eco-folding-kayak?ref=5i0utg&utm_campaign=GIB1586650285.9h3e&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=bb218.greeninbox.com I costs from about US$299.
You are on the right track: price (under $300), quality (recycled?), production capacity, international sales (Amazon?). You’re on the right track. Optional sail sales advice.
Eventually, in the future, micromotor electric with 2-3 hours of autonomy (under $ 150).
Possibly in the future, kit to join two hulls + sail + electric morore.
Good luck!!!
