(Safeway & etc). These are very tasty and last exceptionally out of the fridge. I have had one sitting on the kitchen shelf now for a month without any outward sign of spoilage, though of course it has gone hard – but still tasty, and no doubt lighter. They work well for a snack eg with 9 Grains Vita Wheat Biscuits and perhaps Babybel Cheese which also lasts well outside the fridge in its red wax wrap. Also, cut into tiny pieces they bulk out the protein portion of cooked meals such as Ainsley Harriott’s Lentil Dahl or Continental Four Cheeses Pasta. At this energy density, they are well worth carrying anyway: 1341 Kj/100grams = @3.5 calories/gram.

Hi I bought those as a fridge line & I have left them out for 24 +hours can I still eat them even though I have put the twiggy back in the fridge thanks jac
This is a very hard one for me to answer Jacqui because of liability, so I cannot advocate – just relate our own experiences. We are still alive. As I said in my post about them I ate them after they had been sitting out for a month! This is how salami is supposed to work, The salt and smoking/cooking process is supposed to preserve the food. It is a kind of preserved food which predates refrigeration by a long time. We personally use a variety of salamis on hikes (obviously without refrigeration) and have done so for decades (as with cheddar cheeses). In mild weather both foods remain quite palatable (to us) at room temperature though their pleasantness can degrade in hot weather. Cheers, Steve & Della.
